The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Mikolaj Jerzyk in the 80th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 5-2 became the score in the 91st minute when Thomas Vollmar elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Newcastle United were victorious despite being under pressure from Ecuador for much of the match.
