Harry Gunnarsson was extremely unlucky when he, in the 4th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Vänersborg SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Magne Drewitz didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 17th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Vänersborg SC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Harry Gunnarsson in the 19th minute of play. Stewart Tongs showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Andino in the 20th minute of the match. 21 minutes into the match, Vänersborg SC's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Stewart Tongs reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Stewart Tongs made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 25th minute of play. Harry Gunnarsson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 28th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. After a defensive mix-up in Vänersborg SC's zone, Agustín Saelices stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Stewart Tongs came out of the goal and Agustín Saelices tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The tension between the Ecuador and the Vänersborg SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Luis Andino hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

After 53 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Luis Andino. Thanks to some nice moves Daniel Zorita could shoot a difficult shot in the 56th minute, which Stewart Tongs however easily saved by the left post. Rune Fågel's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rune Fågel helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Vänersborg SC getting a freekick after 62 minutes play. Rune Fågel hit a great ball. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 74 minutes into the match, Vänersborg SC's goalkeeper Stewart Tongs had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. Vänersborg SC's Stewart Tongs proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 74th minute of the match, managed to save Vänersborg SC from getting a goal against them. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Vänersborg SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Harry Gunnarsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 82nd match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Primitivo Andino to maneuver through the defense. Cristian Sancho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Stewart Tongs having to make a save. Harry Gunnarsson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ecuador were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
