The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vukomir Berzadović in the 5th minute of play. Abel Carballo kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. When Henry Alebom fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FK BSK's protests and gave Henry Alebom a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, FK BSK's Henry Alebom got a free kick in the 12th minute. Feliks Kosakowski fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Joakim Lustig kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. With his leg Håvard Kristiansen managed to avoid a goal in the 23rdth minute, when Costa Rica's Axel Tasis fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. If Eliseo Noboa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 29 minutes into the game, Joakim Lustig cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Benito Sanz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 34th minute, Axel Tasis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Aaron Alcocer hit a great ball. In the 37th minute, Sanjin Kodro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 45th match minute, FK BSK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Anders Wallman to maneuver through the defense. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Axel Tasis to strike the kick off in the second half. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Allan Eliasson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 60 minutes, Alan Moruga mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Costa Rica and the FK BSK players grew even worse after the yellow card. When Henry Alebom came up free with the goalie in the 61st minute, the FK BSK fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Henry Alebom couldn't finish the play. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vukomir Berzadović in the 64th minute of play. Eliseo Noboa recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 74th minute Vukomir Berzadović shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to save Costa Rica from getting a goal against them. In the 85th minute, Sergi Ramos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 89th minute, Sanjin Kodro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 90th minute Joakim Lustig shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. FK BSK played a much better game than Costa Rica and deserved their victory. The Costa Rica players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
