Santos Campineiro's Ahmad Reza Asadi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Illescas in the 23rd minute of play. In the 28th minute the ball was on its way in behind Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tomas Illescas in the 78th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ahmad Reza Asadi prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 81st minute Patricio Costa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ahmad Reza Asadi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tomas Illescas might have been able to make a better finish in the 82nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ahmad Reza Asadi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tomas Illescas ran back to his position shaking his head. After a defensive mix-up in Santos Campineiro's zone, Tomas Illescas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ahmad Reza Asadi came out of the goal and Tomas Illescas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With an all-out effort, Santos Campineiro's Jonathan Ferrant threw himself towards the right post 87 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Anibal Enekoitz, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sidney Albuquerque, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match was over Santos Campineiro could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Venezuela throughout the match.
