After having played for 10 minutes, Hector Covarrubias managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paraguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hector Covarrubias was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 15th match minute, Triana Rep. Ind. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Platon Quiroga to maneuver through the defense. After 18 minutes, Hector Covarrubias mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Paraguay and the Triana Rep. Ind. players grew even worse after the yellow card. Medero Valcarcel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jaime Pardo, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. 39 minutes into the match, Paraguay's Jaime Pardo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Medero Valcarcel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a little luck, Paraguay's Jacobo Nores got control of the ball when Platon Quiroga tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Triana Rep. Ind.'s zone, Hector Covarrubias stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Medero Valcarcel came out of the goal and Hector Covarrubias tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Manel Mangas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacobo Nores having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Paraguay's Jacobo Nores played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Platon Quiroga in the 55th minute of play. In the 55th match minute, Paraguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hector Covarrubias to maneuver through the defense. When Manel Mangas came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the Triana Rep. Ind. fans jumped to their feet. In the 75th minute, Jaime Pardo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Medero Valcarcel was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. After 85 minutes of play Paraguay's Hector Covarrubias was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After 86 played minutes Paraguay got a freekick which was hit by Hector Covarrubias. Manel Mangas hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. If Jaime Pardo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
