Vitor Baia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sebastian Villa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in F.C. Paços de Ferreira's zone, Edmundo Espiga stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Vitor Baia came out of the goal and Edmundo Espiga tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. F.C. Paços de Ferreira's Inácio Ferro got his second yellow card of the match in the 18th minute. The referee ordered Inácio Ferro off the ground. The supporters of Honduras booed when F.C. Paços de Ferreira was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ronaldo Camargo missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 35 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Lautaro Navarro right hand side. In the 37th minute Sebastian Villa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vitor Baia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Honduras getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Moises Tafalla hit a great ball. In the 42ndth minute of the game Edmundo Espiga who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but F.C. Paços de Ferreira's Vitor Baia was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Sebastian Villa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vitor Baia having to interfere. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.
