After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Felix Montenegro fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Walter Leisted quite easily take care of the ball. After 25 minutes, Felix Montenegro made it 0-2 with a short kick to the right side. O-TT-O's Walter Leisted tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After having played for 39 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Volmar Graugaard received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Walter Leisted showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.
