Walmir Pombal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Catugi FC were awarded a corner in the 15th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Benjamim Alvarenga took the corner. Edson Couto took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 57th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Julio Vera. Ecuador's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 64th minute, Erik Sanches hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Reko Nybacka took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 70th minute of the game, Luis Andino landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field.
