The audience was convinced that Monty Rogers's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mao Zhen Hong was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. USA's Marco Day played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fabrício Lustosa in the 12th minute of play. Mao Zhen Hong took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Monty Rogers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Monty Rogers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 26th minute, Fabrício Lustosa left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Academia Monte Gordo fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. In the 29th minute the ball was on its way in behind USA's goalkeeper Marco Day, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 33rd minute Pascual Mouricio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marco Day saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 39 minutes into the match, Academia Monte Gordo's Fabrício Lustosa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Marco Day narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Arana Ponta hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Fryderyk Grucza to strike the kick off in the second half. Fryderyk Grucza's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marco Day read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 95th minute of play.
