Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Marcel Corrêa fell near the penalty area in the 20th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Royal Knights FC's protests and gave Marcel Corrêa a yellow card for diving instead. Ecuador made a substitution. Max Alvarado replaced Antonio Arias. After 21 played minutes Royal Knights FC got a freekick which was hit by Marcel Corrêa. After 23 played minutes Royal Knights FC got a freekick which was hit by Cristian Salandri. In the 25th minute of the match, Hudson Pires got a very nice opportunity to score, but Julio Vera was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 28 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Cristo Cordara narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Cristo Cordara made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 31st minute of play. In the 32nd minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. Cristo Cordara showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 34th minute of the match. Cristo Cordara didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Daniel Zorita went, in the 34th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Daniel Zorita made a kick off. Felix Montenegro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 54th minute of the match, but Cristo Cordara made a huge save. In the 61st minute there was a penalty for Ecuador. Daniel Zorita stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Cristo Cordara. 0-2. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Cristian Sancho hit a great ball. Carlos Lima fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Luis Andino was extremely unlucky when he, in the 70th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. 74 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Manu Smets came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Camilo Gisbert kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Royal Knights FC's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cristo Cordara came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the final whistle sounded Ecuador left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Royal Knights FC.
