After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gaizko Abaurre to make the kick off. In the 53rd minute, Gaizko Abaurre hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 57th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. After having played for 66 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 68 minutes into the match, FC Dacii Liberi - IASI's goalkeeper Mihnea Suşu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
