Filip Ivănescu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. After 9 played minutes Fălciu got a freekick which was hit by Sabin Comșa. Filip Ivănescu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lautaro Mancebo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 12 minutes had been played when some careless play by Fălciu's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Joel Gaona was slow to take the kick. During this time Mexico's players had a chance to rest. Facundo Cadaval kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. After 14 minutes, Costin Tofan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Fălciu and the Mexico players grew even worse after the yellow card. With a little luck, Mexico's Dante Lacasa got control of the ball when Sabin Comșa tried to sneak it across the goal line. Mexico's Alberto Tafalla got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Joel Gaona made a great header on Mexico's corner, it was just that Fălciu's Filip Ivănescu managed to reach the ball for a save. After a defensive mix-up in Fălciu's zone, Alberto Tafalla stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Filip Ivănescu came out of the goal and Alberto Tafalla tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cătălin Caranică kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. After the first half Mexico were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Fălciu's Sergiu Pora was substituted for Dacian Mâinea. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Maxim Zbârnea stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Luca Ceaușescu kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. In the 54th minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Filip Ivănescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Marian Pascaru's late challenge caught a Mexico's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Marian Pascaru helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Fălciu getting a freekick after 97 minutes play. Marian Pascaru hit a great ball.
