Fabio Abalos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 14th minute of the match. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Panait Oprea in the 17th minute. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 25th minute of play forced ionion's goalkeeper Fabio Abalos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Ştefan Isvoreanu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Ştefan Isvoreanu tried to chip the ball over his head. In the 32nd minute of the match, Panait Oprea tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Julio Vera saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. ionion's Grigore Pădure was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Julio Vera in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Fabio Abalos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 36th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 38th minute, Ştefan Isvoreanu managed to get in a good position for a shot. ionion's supporters rose to their feet, but Ştefan Isvoreanu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 42 minutes ionion's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Daniel Zorita almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but ionion's Fabio Abalos did a great save. Ecuador's Primitivo Andino suffered a fractured collar bone after 42 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Panait Oprea during the 42nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ecuador's Max Alvarado was substituted for Primitivo Andino. In the 43rd minute, Panait Oprea hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. Daniel Zorita took the ball and in the 52 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fabio Abalos. Fabio Abalos dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabio Abalos having to interfere. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Panait Oprea in the 57th minute of the match. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 62nd minute. Ecuador's Agustín Saelices was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Fabio Abalos in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Panait Oprea in the 67th minute of the match. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 86th match minute, ionion was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ding Fabregas to maneuver through the defense. Cristian Sancho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Fabio Abalos read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 87th minute of play. After 88 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Agustín Saelices. After a rather tough play, ionion's Costică Donose got a free kick in the 90th minute. In the 91st minute, Daniel Zorita sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and ionion's Fabio Abalos didn't even have to move. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
