The audience thought a goal was coming when Agustín Saelices got free with Mark Nilsson in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Börje Fagerberg stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Börje Fagerberg tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Djurgårdens IF's Best Man got a free kick in the 21st minute. Antonio Arias made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that Djurgårdens IF's Mark Nilsson managed to reach the ball for a save. Mark Nilsson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. Cristian Sanchos short, quick shot in the 27thth minute got Mark Nilsson to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Mark Nilsson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

In the 94th minute, Djurgårdens IF's Pankracy Oborski ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Julio Vera. Julio Vera yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 5-1.
