In the 8th minute Felix Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tristan Arioli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Florian Plouffe tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Matt Metzger hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. 17 minutes into the match, Olympique Fribourg's goal looked a bit too open when Luis Andino came free, but Tristan Arioli reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 18th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that Olympique Fribourg's Tristan Arioli managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 20th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tristan Arioli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Raik Topuz in the 22nd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 23rd minute, Omar Bünder hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 28 minutes, Bruno Steiner mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Olympique Fribourg and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Olympique Fribourg getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Olympique Fribourg's Tristan Arioli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 48th minute of play. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Florian Plouffe to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 51st match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juan Sebastián Puig to maneuver through the defense. 55 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Florian Plouffe came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 56 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Schroeder who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Daniel Schroeder got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. After 63 minutes, Omar Bünder mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Olympique Fribourg and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. The shot was stopped by Tristan Arioli but with some difficulty. In the 68th minute, Felix Montenegro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Bruno Steiner's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 70th minute of play. Olympique Fribourg's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Schroeder in the 71st minute. In the 73rd minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 75th minute Florian Plouffe shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The corner led Ecuador's Daniel Zorita to fire away a dangerous shot which Tristan Arioli despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 85th minute the ball was on its way in behind Olympique Fribourg's goalkeeper Tristan Arioli, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Raik Topuz, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. During the 89th minute of the match Matt Metzger completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Matt Metzger a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. After 90 played minutes Olympique Fribourg got a freekick which was hit by Matt Metzger. In the 90th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tristan Arioli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
