The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Guillermo Mariano during the 9th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 11th minute Witold Pryputnicki shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Spartans Lodz was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomas Illescas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 46th minute of the match, but Procopio Trespalacios made a huge save. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Spartans Lodz made a substitution. Karol Karp replaced Tolek Maziarski. The wind increased when Tomas Illescas made the kick off in the second half. If Fryderyk Jajecznica had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When the match was over Spartans Lodz could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Venezuela throughout the match.
