Mehmet Hakkı Oğuzkan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tomas Illescas, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. Carlisle United's Russ Blain managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Salvador Gisbert in the 40 minute of the game. 41 minutes into the match, 洪振义 had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that 洪振义 was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tomas Illescas to strike the kick off in the second half. After 76 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Patricio Costa. A sloppy throw-in by Russ Blain in the 82nd minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Venezuela's Salvador Gisbert. After some careless play in the Venezuela defense, Thomas Winfield kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. The Venezuela fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jonathan Ferrant should have stopped the shot. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from 张学友 楚城, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Carlisle United players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
