The audience thought a goal was coming when Adhemar Montenegro got free with Jacobo Nores in the 25th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Paraguay's Hector Covarrubias got a free kick in the 28th minute. A collision led to Lakers FC getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Percival Magalhães hit a great ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Álvaro Paiva during the 37th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. With his leg Paulão Corrêa managed to avoid a goal in the 84thth minute, when Paraguay's Jaime Pardo fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. If Jaime Pardo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 91 minutes into the match, Paraguay's Jaime Pardo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Paulão Corrêa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Jaime Pardo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paulão Corrêa having to interfere.
