An unexpectedly hard shot by Isidoro Sarmiento in the 3rd minute of play forced Revolución Joao FC's goalkeeper Joel Ahonen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Joel Ahonen was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Isidoro Sarmiento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Revolución Joao FC booed when Panama was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomas Berganza didn't get a good kick on the ball. Panama's Marcos Cotilla proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 46th minute of the match, managed to save Panama from getting a goal against them. After the first half Panama were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tomas Berganza to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 51st match minute, Revolución Joao FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Uriel Coca to maneuver through the defense. Revolución Joao FC's Joel Ahonen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Berganza in the 54th minute of play. In the 55th match minute, Revolución Joao FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Humberto Carillo to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 56 minutes, Abraham Alguacil managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Panama's supporters crossed their fingers, but Abraham Alguacil was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 59 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Osvaldo Somoza came free, but Marcos Cotilla reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Revolución Joao FC's Joel Ahonen proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 60th minute of the match, managed to save Revolución Joao FC from getting a goal against them. After a defensive mix-up in Panama's zone, Xesus Cortes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcos Cotilla came out of the goal and Xesus Cortes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Marcos Cotilla showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Uriel Becerra in the 70th minute of the match. Joel Ahonen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Berganza in the 71st minute of the match. Abraham Alguacil sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 80th minute, Osvaldo Somoza fired away a free kick at the goal, but hit it at the wrong angle and it went over the crossbar. Xesus Cortes struck a weak shot in the 83rd minute. Marcos Cotilla didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Revolución Joao FC. In the 85th minute, Xesus Cortes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 85th minute Xesus Cortes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcos Cotilla saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vilson Borrero sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Marcos Cotilla didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Uriel Becerra went, in the 90th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. Joel Ahonen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Berganza in the 96th minute of play. The Panama supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Panama would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
