The referee felt a red card was in order, 35 minutes into the game, when Alexander Carballo put in a rough tackle. Through an outstanding action, after 37 minutes, Benito Sanz successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Jimeno Eate tried to sneak it across the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Eliseo Noboa to strike the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the game, Juan Rubio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Lautaro Puig fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Laureano Belasko having to interfere. In the 75th minute, Eliseo Noboa reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Laureano Belasko. The goal made the score 1-3. Lautaro Puig sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Maximiliano Celio kicked well hit freekick during the 83rd minute of the match. In the 87th minute Maximiliano Celio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Costa Rica to win.
