Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rain De Hond, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. A collision led to Genk getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Segundo Ubendu hit a great ball. Jannes Van Leempoel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lautaro Mancebo in the 14th minute of play. Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rain De Hond, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. After a rather tough play, Genk's Segundo Ubendu got a free kick in the 18th minute. In the 19th minute of the match Joel Gaona shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jannes Van Leempoel showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Lautaro Mancebo struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Jannes Van Leempoel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mexico. Dante Lacasa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vergil Rupov in the 22nd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rain De Hond in the 23rd minute of play forced Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dante Lacasa made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Suat Kaya sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 27th minute of play forced Genk's goalkeeper Jannes Van Leempoel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Rain De Hond in the 30th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dante Lacasa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Joel Gaona had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vergil Rupov in the 35th minute of play. Segundo Ubendu hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Facundo Cadaval hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Luca Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Dante Lacasa made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Suat Kaya sent off a good shot on target. 43 minutes into the match, Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alexander Klemensson. Genk's Thomas-Jan Van de Weijer was substituted for Tony Mampaerts. Genk's Michel Hakimi was substituted for Ariel Paris.

In the 59th minute Alberto Tafalla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jannes Van Leempoel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Many of Mexico's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Mexico may have spent more time on the ball, but Genk were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
