An unexpectedly hard shot by Donato Vargas in the 8th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Donato Vargas in the 11th minute of play. In the 14th minute, Tomas Illescas ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Giovanni Pena was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Jerônimo Mangueira did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-1 to the left of a surprised Jonathan Ferrant 25 minutes into the match. Giovanni Pena took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Illescas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 32 minutes of play, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Giovanni Pena was left in no man's land by his defense there! With an all-out effort, Júbilo Iwata's Jonathan Ferrant threw himself towards the right post 36 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Donato Vargas, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Tomas Illescas charged in rather forcefully in the 37th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Tomas Illescas the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Donato Vargas, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. A nice corner shot did that Chico Mendonça got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Jonathan Ferrant quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. When the match had gone on for 44 minutes, Jerônimo Mangueira put it in 2-2 from a short distance just to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. The first half was very even, with the score at 2-2 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tomas Illescas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 54 minutes, Salvador Gisbert mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Venezuela and the Júbilo Iwata players grew even worse after the yellow card. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jonathan Ferrant showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 63rd minute, Patricio Costa fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Giovanni Pena, passed just outside the right post. Sandro de Barros made in the 65th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Venezuela's Jonathan Venegas. Tomas Illescas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 66th minute of the match, but Giovanni Pena made a huge save. When Sandro de Barros fell near the penalty area in the 68th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Júbilo Iwata's protests and gave Sandro de Barros a yellow card for diving instead. In the 81st minute Donato Vargas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 85 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Jerônimo Mangueira came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Donato Vargas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Giovanni Pena made a fantastic save in the 88th minute, when Tomas Illescas sent off a good shot on target. In the 89th minute, Zé Roberto Velasco left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Júbilo Iwata fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 6-2. 93 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Donato Vargas came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. There was no doubt that Júbilo Iwata were the better team. Júbilo Iwata's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
