Abel Carballo's late challenge caught a Atletico Van Goof's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Abel Carballo helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Abel Carballo hit a great ball. In the 19th minute, Juan Rubio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 22 minutes of play, Costa Rica's Eliseo Noboa made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Alberto Di Placido was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Axel Tasis in the 32nd minute of play forced Atletico Van Goof's goalkeeper Alberto Di Placido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After the first half Costa Rica were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Safy Belfaa was the one to do the kick off. Safy Belfaa struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Benito Sanz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Atletico Van Goof. The throw-in from Eliseo Noboa in the 67th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Atletico Van Goof's Alexander Tomasso. In the 68th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aaron Alcocer to maneuver through the defense. In the 70th minute the ball was on its way in behind Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Safy Belfaa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Ercole Marcon's late challenge caught a Costa Rica's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alberto Di Placido was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-4. Eliseo Noboa might have been able to make a better finish in the 90th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Alberto Di Placido. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Eliseo Noboa ran back to his position shaking his head. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Atletico Van Goof lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
