In the 12th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gustaw Fafinski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 15th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Luis Andino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 40th minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gustaw Fafinski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 41st minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The supporters of Ecuador booed when KS Lechia Gdańsk S.A was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elías Olsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gustaw Fafinski made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 82nd minute of play. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Gustaw Fafinski tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
