The audience thought a goal was coming when 邱兴海 got free with Marcos Cotilla in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 【AC】浙江宁海『ＤＩＮ』's 马海川 played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Berganza in the 20th minute of play. Isidoro Sarmiento fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without 马海川 having to interfere. Tomas Berganza recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Tomas Berganza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tomas Berganza to make the kick off. Estefania Rasgado might have been able to make a better finish in the 51st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over 马海川. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Estefania Rasgado ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 55th minute, Tomas Berganza left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. After having played for 73 minutes, Tomas Berganza managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Panama's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tomas Berganza was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
