An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 14th minute of play forced Los Liquisue FC's goalkeeper Uwe Septinius to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Federico Insúa might have been able to make a better finish in the 18th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Federico Insúa ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience thought a goal was coming when Federico Insúa got free with Julio Vera in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Uwe Septinius made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 19th minute of play. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 20th minute. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The audience was convinced that Federico Insúa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 63rd minute of the game. Uwe Septinius tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 80 minutes into the game, Los Liquisue FC's Federico Insúa nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Julio Vera made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. In the 84th minute, Federico Insúa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 93 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Paolo Xabat came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ecuador were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
