The audience was convinced that Fernan Gurutz's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. With a little luck, Frisia AFC's Santos Vigil got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Godfredo Efraim stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Godfredo Efraim tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Luciano Sadurni was the one to do the kick off. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. Santos Vigil showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Frisia AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leon Videl didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 68th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Santos Vigil saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 69th minute after Frisia AFC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. Agustín Saelices was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Santos Vigil showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. Frisia AFC's Cornelio Etxatxu was substituted for Ramiro Xacintu. In the 73rd minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Agustín Saelices almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Frisia AFC's Santos Vigil did a great save. In the 76th minute, Santo Panpili hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Santos Vigil took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Andino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 81st minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Santos Vigil saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 82 minutes into the match, Frisia AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Felix Montenegro came free, but Santos Vigil reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Frisia AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ecuador the free kick.
