In the 6th minute the ball was on its way in behind Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 8th minute of the match Trabzonspor got a corner. Uruguay's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ivo Waard ran over to the corner to take the kick. Joaquin Gayoso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ataman Kutun, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. 12 minutes into the game, Trabzonspor's Alejo Otsando nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Joaquin Gayoso made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. In the 18th minute, Ataman Kutun hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 23rd minute, Trabzonspor's Alejo Otsando ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Joaquin Gayoso. Joaquin Gayoso yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. A collision led to Uruguay getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Jorge Sainz hit a great ball. The Trabzonspor fans' excitement grew in the 39th match minute when Trabzonspor's Alejo Otsando looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Thanks to some nice moves Alejo Otsando could shoot a difficult shot in the 44th minute, which Joaquin Gayoso however easily saved by the left post. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Alejo Otsando made a kick off. Alejo Otsando recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Trabzonspor getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Buğrahan Uman hit a great ball. In the 56th minute, Alejo Otsando ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Joaquin Gayoso was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-0. Ataman Kutun received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Joaquin Gayoso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Trabzonspor's Raşit Timuroz was substituted for Alejo Otsando. When Raşit Timuroz came up free with the goalie in the 71st minute, the Trabzonspor fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Raşit Timuroz couldn't finish the play. Raşit Timuroz blasted a shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Joaquin Gayoso having to make a save. Joaquin Gayoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Raşit Timuroz in the 76th minute of the match. A hard shot by Jaime Cazalla from long distance, 78 minutes into the match, got Yunus Civan's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Joaquin Gayoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Raşit Timuroz in the 83rd minute of the match. After some careless play in the Uruguay defense, Raşit Timuroz kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joaquin Gayoso. The Uruguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joaquin Gayoso should have stopped the shot. Vacid Oğuzata received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Joaquin Gayoso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
