Benito Sanz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Matei Pescaru fell near the penalty area in the 40th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fotbal Club Vaslui's protests and gave Matei Pescaru a yellow card for diving instead. In the 40th match minute, Fotbal Club Vaslui was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Matei Pescaru to maneuver through the defense. 44 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Andrei Vârjean came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Fotbal Club Vaslui's Alex Potra got a free kick in the 79th minute. Andrei Vârjean could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 84th minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save. In the 96th minute Eliseo Noboa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mugurel Răduț saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
