Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Peng Xiong was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Adilson Breckenfeld sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 18thth minute of the game Peng Xiong who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Peng Xiong in the 23rd minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Angel Vito breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pablo Solari got free with Julio Vera in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Angel Vito took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. Antonio Arias charged in rather forcefully in the 63rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Antonio Arias the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Daniel Zorita might have been able to make a better finish in the 67th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Angel Vito. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Daniel Zorita ran back to his position shaking his head. Martin Biörkman hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Benigno Elija in the 75th minute of play. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benigno Elija, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Benigno Elija's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 88th minute of the game. A nice corner shot did that Martin Biörkman got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
