Ovidio Oto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Raimundo Backhouse, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Santos Lazcano could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 5th minute of the match, but Teodosio Cerda made a huge save. Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Teodosio Cerda proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 6th minute of the match, managed to save Club Deportes Santa Cruz from getting a goal against them. After 8 minutes, Francisco Arens mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Club Deportes Santa Cruz and the OLYMPIACOS FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of OLYMPIACOS FC booed when Club Deportes Santa Cruz was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Francisco Arens didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Clemencín Varas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 32nd minute Raimundo Backhouse shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ovidio Oto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bernabe Normando sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ovidio Oto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Clemencín Varas in the 37th minute of play. Clemente Barros received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Ovidio Oto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Santos Lazcano struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Teodosio Cerda didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for OLYMPIACOS FC. After some careless play in the OLYMPIACOS FC defense, Clemente Barros kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ovidio Oto. The OLYMPIACOS FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ovidio Oto should have stopped the shot.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Clemencín Varas to make the kick off. Ovidio Oto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Raimundo Backhouse in the 53rd minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Santos Lazcano in the 54th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Teodosio Cerda prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 57 minutes into the match, Club Deportes Santa Cruz's goal looked a bit too open when Santos Lazcano came free, but Teodosio Cerda reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Club Deportes Santa Cruz's zone, Elpidio Brais stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Teodosio Cerda came out of the goal and Elpidio Brais tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Elpidio Brais recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 62 played minutes OLYMPIACOS FC got a freekick which was hit by Florencio Jacob. After recieving a nice pass, Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Teodosio Pimentel tried to score from far away in the 63rd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. After 68 played minutes OLYMPIACOS FC got a freekick which was hit by Florencio Jacob. After a defensive mix-up in OLYMPIACOS FC's zone, Teodosio Pimentel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ovidio Oto came out of the goal and Teodosio Pimentel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Clemencín Varas came up free with the goalie in the 70th minute, the Club Deportes Santa Cruz fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Clemencín Varas couldn't finish the play. In the 73rd minute Raimundo Backhouse shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ovidio Oto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 75th minute, Clemencín Varas made a precise shot to the right of Ovidio Oto. OLYMPIACOS FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Clemencín Varas got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. OLYMPIACOS FC's Bernabe Normando got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Clemencín Varas suffered a sprained foot after 86 minutes and couldn't finish the game. After 86 minutes, Florencio Jacob mouthed his way into the referee's book.
