An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Murillo in the 12th minute of play forced Internacional's goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julian Murillo might have been able to make a better finish in the 17th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Geronimo Rulli. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Julian Murillo ran back to his position shaking his head. Julian Murillo struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Geronimo Rulli didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Peru. 27 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Evaristo Costa came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julian Murillo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 32nd minute Luz Tejedor shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Geronimo Rulli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 37 minutes into the match, Internacional's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Geronimo Rulli reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Geronimo Rulli showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julian Murillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Evaristo Costa stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Peru booed when Internacional was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Israel Aballe didn't get a good kick on the ball. Julian Murillo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 83rdth minute tested the skills of Geronimo Rulli when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Pablo-Enrique Abeijon's late challenge caught a Peru's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Pablo-Enrique Abeijon helped the player get up and apologised. Peru made a substitution. Antonio Tenorio replaced Luz Tejedor. In the 87th minute, one of Internacional:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Internacional. 93 minutes into the match, Peru's Rafael Gallo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Geronimo Rulli narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Geronimo Rulli stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rafael Gallo's shot from short distance in the 93rd minute. Peru's Eliseo Mina was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Geronimo Rulli in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 97thth minute of the game Laércio de Andrade who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Peru's Rolando Noboa was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 98th match minute, Peru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Milagros Fraga to maneuver through the defense. Peru's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
