Gaudencio Flor made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 36th minute of play. Gaudencio Flor showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Illescas in the 38th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tomas Illescas in the 40th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gaudencio Flor prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Wilfredo Felipillo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arnaldo Firman, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tomas Illescas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 87 minutes in the game, Patricio Costa fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Gaudencio Flor having to interfere. Gaudencio Flor took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Illescas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 88 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Jose Correa. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arnaldo Firman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Arnaldo Firman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Venezuela's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because El Tiki-Tiki de Cappa had won, even though Venezuela had held more of the ball.
