José Chilavert showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Julian Murillo in the 24th minute of the match. 25 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Amarante Sierra came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Julian Murillo made a kick off. 55 minutes into the game, Lucas Papacharalabous cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Rolando Noboa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.
