In the 3rd minute, Club A. Independiente's Venancio Mirande ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Fynn John. Fynn John yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Olívio França in the 14th minute of play forced Club A. Independiente's goalkeeper Roque Rexino to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Atlético Mineiro's Olívio França got a free kick in the 16th minute. Fynn John showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rolando Victoro, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. 29 minutes into the match, André Luís Best had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Roque Rexino. Club A. Independiente's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that André Luís Best was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. In the 31st minute, Olívio França left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Atlético Mineiro fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. After 36 played minutes Atlético Mineiro got a freekick which was hit by Tomé Brasil. A collision led to Club A. Independiente getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Generoso Blai hit a great ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-4.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Andres Ishmael to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Benê Rodrigues managed to get in a good position for a shot. Atlético Mineiro's supporters rose to their feet, but Benê Rodrigues was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Roque Rexino breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 59 minutes into the match, Atlético Mineiro's Benê Rodrigues sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Roque Rexino narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some careless play in the Club A. Independiente defense, Olívio França kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Roque Rexino. The Club A. Independiente fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Roque Rexino should have stopped the shot. Olívio França received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Roque Rexino tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Benê Rodrigues was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 67th minute. Atlético Mineiro's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Generoso Blai during the 72nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Generoso Blai hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. The supporters of Atlético Mineiro booed when Club A. Independiente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Generoso Blai didn't get a good kick on the ball. 80 minutes into the match, Olívio França notched a goal, 1-7, to the right of Club A. Independiente's Roque Rexino. Roque Rexino was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Benê Rodrigues recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Atlético Mineiro's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
