Alan Moruga was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 7 minutes into the match. In the 7th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alan Moruga to maneuver through the defense. Delfim Paraense recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 8th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Eliseo Noboa hit a great ball. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 15th minute of the match, managed to save Costa Rica from getting a goal against them. Tobias Zachrisson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 18 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Delfim Paraense came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 23rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 33rd minute Eliseo Noboa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Claudio-Paul Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 34th minute, Fabinho Valladares reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Benito Sanz. The goal made the score 1-0. 37 minutes into the game, Delfim Paraense cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Benito Sanz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.
The wind increased when Delfim Paraense made the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Delfim Paraense ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. When Lautaro Puig came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Costa Rica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lautaro Puig couldn't finish the play. In the 81st minute, Fabinho Valladares left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Inter de Melão fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 5-0. Eliseo Noboa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Claudio-Paul Taffarel having to interfere. Falcão Dias received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 92nd match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eliseo Noboa to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Delfim Paraense in the 94th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Inter de Melão's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
