In the 17th minute Honduras were awarded a corner. Edmundo Espiga went to the cornerflag to take it. 22 minutes in the game Júlio Pires did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Gilvan Chaves. Honduras's Lautaro Navarro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Toninho Terra in the 25th minute of play. Benjamin Mazza made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Róbson Messias to strike the kick off in the second half.
