Through an outstanding action, after 10 minutes, Julio Vera successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Daniel Zorita scored 0-2 in the 19th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Tiago Godoi, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Tiago Godoi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felix Montes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ronaldo Crispín got free with Julio Vera in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Cristian Sancho took the ball and in the 34 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Tiago Godoi. Tiago Godoi dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-4. After a rather tough play, São Paulo F.C.'s Attila Keserű got a free kick in the 40th minute. In the 45th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tiago Godoi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience was convinced that Agustín Saelices's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Tiago Godoi was relentless in the 46th minute of the game.

The wind increased when Ronaldo Crispín made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Antonio Arias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dirk Snabl's shot from long distance was a real pearl which went to the right and just passed Julio Vera - 1-7 was put on the score board in the 73rd minute. In the 78th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antonio Arias to maneuver through the defense. Attila Keserű's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 79th minute of play. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tiago Godoi having to interfere. In the 84th minute, Cristian Sancho reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Tiago Godoi. The goal made the score 2-8. São Paulo F.C.'s Tiago Godoi proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 87th minute of the match, managed to save São Paulo F.C. from getting a goal against them. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dorian Quadros in the 89th minute of play. Dirk Snabl fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Daniel Zorita who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 94thth minute tested the skills of Tiago Godoi when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
