If Edmundo Espiga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 16th minute, Ivan Navarro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 17 minutes into the match, Atlético Mineiro's Tomé Brasil broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. In the 19th minute, Edmundo Espiga left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The audience thought a goal was coming when Olívio França got free with Lautaro Navarro in the 40th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. César de Queiroz kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. After 45 minutes, Valentín Carvallo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Honduras and the Atlético Mineiro players grew even worse after the yellow card.
