To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 41 minutes into the match, Werneck FC - DMZ's goal looked a bit too open when Felix Montenegro came free, but Felix Donciu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Daniel Zorita in the 45th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Felix Donciu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emilio Machado, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. With his leg Felix Donciu managed to avoid a goal in the 55thth minute, when Ecuador's Daniel Zorita fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Werneck FC - DMZ's Emilio Machado got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Caetano Linares was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 61 minutes into the match. Werneck FC - DMZ's Zé Paulo Luz was substituted for Sebastian Kiszkiel. In a very dangerous position, a player in Werneck FC - DMZ fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 60th minute. Penalty! The Werneck FC - DMZ fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
