The throw-in from Octav Zdraşcu in the 22nd minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Peru's Eliseo Mina. If Luz Tejedor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Radamel Hendrickx showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julian Murillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. Unai Sócrates came free with the goalkeeper in the 29th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Rolando Noboa could save by the left post. After a defensive mix-up in Peru's zone, Unai Sócrates stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rolando Noboa came out of the goal and Unai Sócrates tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience was convinced that Luz Tejedor's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Radamel Hendrickx was relentless in the 35th minute of the game. In the 38th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Radamel Hendrickx saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Yuri Portugal got free with Rolando Noboa in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 43 played minutes Peru got a freekick which was hit by Moises Gayoso. Julian Murillo charged in rather forcefully in the 46th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Julian Murillo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. With a little luck, Peru's Rolando Noboa got control of the ball when Yuri Portugal tried to sneak it across the goal line. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Julian Murillo made the kick off in the second half. Julian Murillo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 67th minute of the match, but Radamel Hendrickx made a huge save. 73 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when Peru's Julian Murillo fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head. In the 74th match minute, Peru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joaquin Prats to maneuver through the defense.
