São Paulo Leste F.C.'s Emerson Leão played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 7th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Felix Montenegro might have been able to make a better finish in the 67th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Emerson Leão. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Felix Montenegro ran back to his position shaking his head. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Emerson Leão didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. Felix Montenegro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 84th match minute, São Paulo Leste F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paulo Renato Vidal to maneuver through the defense. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Emerson Leão tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Leendert Looze sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ecuador played a much better game than São Paulo Leste F.C. and deserved their victory. The São Paulo Leste F.C. players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
