After 9 played minutes Botafogo MZRJ got a freekick which was hit by Juvenal Camargo. 16 minutes in the game, Gilmar Couto fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Julio Vera having to interfere. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 22nd minute of play forced Botafogo MZRJ's goalkeeper José Vítor Netto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 25th minute after Botafogo MZRJ's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. 29 minutes into the match, Botafogo MZRJ's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but José Vítor Netto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jailson Capixaba sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. José Vítor Netto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 37th minute of play. 47 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Jailson Capixaba came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gilmar Couto to make the kick off. A throw-in in the 50th minute of the game was made by Primitivo Andino with Cristian Sancho as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gilmar Couto in the 53rd minute of play. 55 minutes into the game, Jailson Capixaba cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Julio Vera was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 59th minute, Gilmar Couto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Primitivo Andino made in the 65th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Cristian Sancho. The throw-in from Primitivo Andino in the 66th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Botafogo MZRJ's Álvaro Melo. Botafogo MZRJ made a substitution. Antônio Lopez replaced Jailson Capixaba. In the 78th minute, Gilmar Couto left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Botafogo MZRJ fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. After 85 played minutes Botafogo MZRJ got a freekick which was hit by Serginho Azevedo. Gilmar Couto scored 3-0 in the 91st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 94 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Gilmar Couto came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Botafogo MZRJ support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
