Remigio Finlay's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 37th minute of play. Carlinhos Freitas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 39th minute of the match. 46 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lance Cabezas.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Remigio Finlay stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Many of Ecuador's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Ecuador may have spent more time on the ball, but AA GUARULHOS were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
