Francisco Seco recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 11th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 15th minute the ball was on its way in behind Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 16 played minutes PERSPOLIS got a freekick which was hit by Honorio Carceles. 17 minutes into the match, Jaime Cazalla notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of PERSPOLIS's Gianluigi Donnarumma. Gianluigi Donnarumma was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The supporters of PERSPOLIS booed when Uruguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jorge Sainz didn't get a good kick on the ball. PERSPOLIS were furious when Bruno Egoitz was red carded, 36 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. 36 minutes into the game, one of PERSPOLIS:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The corner was taken by Jaime Cazalla in the 42nd minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kevin Carballal in the 42nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gianluigi Donnarumma saved PERSPOLIS from getting behind. Maximiliano Escribano struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Gianluigi Donnarumma didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Uruguay. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cordarell Guasch in the 51st minute of play. After a rather tough play, PERSPOLIS's Cordarell Guasch got a free kick in the 52nd minute. With an all-out effort, Uruguay's Gianluigi Donnarumma threw himself towards the right post 53 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Maximiliano Escribano, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Facundo Feria hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. Maximiliano Escribano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Francisco Seco who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 63rdth minute tested the skills of Gianluigi Donnarumma when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 67th match minute, PERSPOLIS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Honorio Carceles to maneuver through the defense. Gianluigi Donnarumma made a fantastic save in the 72nd minute, when Maximiliano Escribano sent off a good shot on target.
