Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ingmar Bergman in the 4th minute of the match. 10 minutes into the match, Daniel Zorita notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of PERSPOLIS's Gianluigi Donnarumma. Gianluigi Donnarumma was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 13 minutes into the match, PERSPOLIS's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Gianluigi Donnarumma reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 13th minute, Cristian Sancho left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. The supporters of Ecuador booed when PERSPOLIS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Honorio Carceles didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 24th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Cristian Sancho scored 0-4 in the 26th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After some careless play in the PERSPOLIS defense, Luis Andino kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gianluigi Donnarumma. The PERSPOLIS fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gianluigi Donnarumma should have stopped the shot. 35 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Felix Montenegro nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Gianluigi Donnarumma made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-6. After having played for 42 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 47th minute, Cristian Sancho ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Gianluigi Donnarumma was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-7.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ingmar Bergman to strike the kick off in the second half. Daniel Zorita's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Gianluigi Donnarumma firmly grabbed it by the left post. In the 54th minute the ball was on its way in behind PERSPOLIS's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Luis Andino took the ball and in the 61 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gianluigi Donnarumma. Gianluigi Donnarumma dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-8. When Luis Andino came up free with the goalie in the 65th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luis Andino couldn't finish the play. In the 66th match minute, PERSPOLIS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cordarell Guasch to maneuver through the defense. PERSPOLIS's Gianluigi Donnarumma proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 67th minute of the match, managed to save PERSPOLIS from getting a goal against them. 69 minutes into the match, PERSPOLIS's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Felix Montenegro. A collision led to PERSPOLIS getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Facundo Feria hit a great ball. 73 minutes into the match, Cristian Sancho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gianluigi Donnarumma. PERSPOLIS's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Cristian Sancho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-9. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ingmar Bergman, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gianluigi Donnarumma having to interfere. After 82 minutes PERSPOLIS's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. In the 85th minute, Cristian Sancho reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Gianluigi Donnarumma. The goal made the score 0-10. Gianluigi Donnarumma made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 88th minute. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than PERSPOLIS throughout the match.
