Ecuador's defense didn't have a chance, in the 44th minute, when Jairo Deunoro scored to the left of an out of position Julio Vera, making the score, 1-0. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Daniel Zorita might have been able to make a better finish in the 53rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Angelo Urtsua. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Daniel Zorita ran back to his position shaking his head. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jairo Deunoro, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. Angelo Urtsua made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 63rd minute. Many of Ecuador's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Ecuador may have spent more time on the ball, but Caballeritos del Baile were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
