After 45 played minutes, Panama's Abraham Alguacil shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper 谢建政 came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Panama reached it. 谢建政 made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alex Cambeiro in the 47th minute of play. After 48 minutes of play, Panama's Isidoro Sarmiento made it 2-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. 谢建政 was left in no man's land by his defense there! After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Abraham Alguacil's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but 谢建政 firmly grabbed it by the left post. If Abraham Alguacil had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute.
