Sebastián Battaglia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Osvaldo Potente could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 16th minute of the match, but Jonathan Ferrant made a huge save. Ruben Sánchez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Illescas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sebastián Battaglias short, quick shot in the 23rdth minute got Jonathan Ferrant to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. When the match clock showed 25 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Martin Palermo sped through Venezuela's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. In the 29th minute, La Candela FC's Martin Palermo dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-0. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ruben Sánchez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Illescas in the 34th minute of the match. Jonathan Ferrant stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Martin Palermo's shot from short distance in the 36th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rubén-Darío Feldmann in the 38th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rubén-Darío Feldmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. In the 47th minute, Sebastián Battaglia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 5-0.

The wind increased when Tomas Illescas made the kick off in the second half. Tomas Illescas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 63 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Illescas. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Martin Palermo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When La Candela FC's Martin Palermo in the 68th minute got a chance for a shot 68th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Venezuela's goalie prevented a goal. Patricio Costa hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. In the 76thth minute of the game Martin Palermo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gabi Batistuta in the 78th minute of play. Jonathan Ferrant stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Martin Palermo's shot from short distance in the 79th minute.
