When Patricio Costa fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Venezuela's protests and gave Patricio Costa a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a free kick in the 47th minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The supporters of Vancouver Reds booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Camilo Gaos didn't get a good kick on the ball. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Vancouver Reds had played much better football throughout.
